Rimisp – Latin American Center for Rural Development, with the support of the International Development Research Center (IDRC), implemented an applied research exercise that explored the consequences of the COVID-19 pandemic and subsequent food shocks on food insecurity and family farming.
This research was carried out in 10 territories in 5 countries of the region, during 2 years. In the case of Colombia, it took place mainly in the departments of Huila and Nariño. Quantitative and qualitative tools were used and multi-stakeholder dialogue groups were set up to identify lines of territorial intervention to strengthen the food resilience of households and agricultural production of family farming in the region.
This document synthesizes the main results of this research, in terms of policy recommendations that can be applied in the coming years by local governments in the country, seeking to strengthen territorial food security and agricultural productivity, and thus reduce the food insecurity figures that reach 28% of Colombians (DANE, 2023).
