The global pandemic situation by COVID-19 that we have been following on a weekly basis in our COVID-19 Conjuncture Analysis This time it does not lead us to delve deeper into the adoption of measures to mitigate the serious economic, labor and social effects that are being generated. In the context of a continent such as Latin America, with high levels of income inequality and dual labor markets, in which the formal sector coexists with high rates of informality and precarious employment, it is the most vulnerable people, sectors and territories that will be most affected by the crisis.
This analysis presents and analyzes the measures that the governments of Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru are implementing in response to the crisis to protect i) household income, ii) employment and labor stability of workers, and iii) micro, small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs).
