05/04/2023

Rimisp Chile Office met with the International Federation of Beekeepers Associations, Apimondia. The meeting was attended by a delegation from the organizing committee of the world beekeeping meeting of the same name (Apimondia 2023) that will take place in Chile from September 4-8 this year.

The purpose of the meeting held last Friday, March 24, was to explore alternatives to join the world beekeeping meeting, together with the beekeepers of the program promoted by the Regional Government of Los Lagos: “Recovery and economic reactivation of the beekeeping sector for producers in the province of Palena and Llanquihue”, and to establish a link to articulate advocacy actions together with the Chilean Beekeeping Network in the medium and long term.

Among the attendees were a group of the Chilean organizers and international visitors, including Riccardo Jannoni-Sebastianini (Italy), Secretary General of Apimondia; Burak Kaptan (Turkey), Secretary of the Congress; and Daniel Martinez Lucas (Argentina), president of the International Latin American Beekeeping Federation. In addition to Patricio Nayan, Carolina Olcay and Natalia Slachevsky, researchers from Rimisp’s Chile Office.

Patricio Nayan, Rimisp researcher and in charge of the program, highlighted the importance of the meeting with Apimondia and pointed out that: ”from our perspective of rural development, agroecological production and linkage with the territories, beekeeping is fundamental and what this world congress brings is very important” and added ” in addition, another relevant point, is to be able to establish short and long term alliances that transcend what APIMONDIA 2023 is (…) the idea is that as Rimisp we can work together with them on issues of political advocacy, promotion of the beekeeping sector and if possible generate research and data for what is national beekeeping”, he concluded.

During the world beekeeping event, the most relevant topics for beekeeping will be addressed through conferences and symposia of the usual scientific commissions. In addition, the slogan “For Sustainable Beekeeping – From the South of the World” will be present in all the dialogues and debates of the event.

The program Recovery and economic reactivation of the beekeeping industry for producers in the province of Palena and Llanquihue“. seeks to identify new business models and opportunities to generate value for products obtained from honey production, through the implementation of marketing and promotion strategies and tools for the products and services generated in the value chain of the product, which will allow consumers in the provincial, regional and national markets to learn about the properties, uses and benefits of the provincial production, positioning the product with a unique and differentiated value from the national honey production.
