The activity began with a visit to the farm of Leoncio Martinez, in the Yaguachi canton, which has had an organic production system in place for six years. Later, the group went to the Michelita plot, owned by Pilar Cantos, in the Milagro canton. There, 15 varieties were verified, which have been established for two years.
During the tours, they were able to see the production process of cocoa transformation, from fermentation, drying, storage and export of the beans.
During the afternoon, a dialogue was held with a group of cocoa producers on the economic and food security situation of family farming in the post-Covid-19 context. Participants shared their testimonies on the different impacts of the pandemic and the ways in which they have dealt with them, as well as their future prospects.
