12/01/2023

The activity took place in the commune of Futaleufú, Chile, and was headed by the Regional Governor of Los Lagos, Patricio Vallespín, who inaugurated productive development programs, among which is the programRecovery and Economic Reactivation of the Beekeeping Sector for Producers of the Province of Palena and Llanquihue“, executed by Rimisp.

In addition to the regional authority, the regional presidential delegate of Los Lagos, Giovanna Moreira, the Regional Council of Los Lagos, mayors of communes of the Province of Palena, potential participants for the programs and a delegation of beekeepers from the commune of Hualaihué were also present. They were joined by Rodrigo Yáñez, director of Rimisp in Chile and Patricio Nayan, in charge of the program to be implemented by Rimisp.

The program, financed by the Regional Government of Los Lagos and executed by Rimisp, seeks to accompany producers with strategies to achieve quality products with added value, promoting associativity and advancing towards the consolidation of beekeeping as a development tool in the area.

Patricio Vallespín, Regional Governor of Los Lagos, highlighted that the program “Recovery and Economic Reactivation of the Beekeeping Industry for Producers of the Province of Palena and Llanquihue” is focused on an activity that had never had support despite being “a product that here can have such a particular characteristic that can change the life of all those who dedicate themselves to it. And that is why we trust Rimisp, which is here accompanying this initiative because we want them to do it very well”.

During the visit, Rimisp held meetings with the regional councilors, Roberto Soto and Fernando Hernandez, to plan the implementation of the program with beekeepers. He also met with the technical team of the Regional Council of Los Lagos and representatives of the other productive development programs launched at the conference held in the province of Palena.

Patricio Nayan, coordinator of the program in the Province of Palena, pointed out that investment advisory services will be provided for 24 months with a technical team in the field, in addition to a technician who will provide support, advice and training. “There is a part that has to do with financing for investments according to the needs of the beekeepers, this will also depend on the productive capacity of each one; productive, by the number of crates and the volumes they can produce, to make them competitive, either by means of processing rooms, improvement of brands or marketing issues in general”.

Rodrigo Yañez, director of Rimisp in Chile commented that “it is very important for us to be able to execute this program because it allows us to integrate the territorial approach to propose a governance system that allows us to raise the requirements of bee producers in each province from their own needs”. He also explains that this initiative will strengthen Rimisp’s presence in the Lakes Region, since “we are also currently working in the province of Chiloé to investigate the resilience of food systems in family farming”.

It is hoped that the three programs presented can have a common point that allows the Catholic University of Chile to work on governance and that, in the same way, integrates a territorial approach that puts the different actors involved in dialogue.
