The activity, open to the public, took place in an inflatable structure in front of the Palacio de La Moneda and counted with the participation of Tomás Gárate, Mayor of Puerto Varas; Natalia Aravena, member of Geographers Chile; Marisol Brito, Technical Coordinator of the Urban Management Department of the Ministry of Housing and Urbanism and Tatiana Aguirre, researcher of Rimisp. The conversation was moderated by Julián Gallardo, co-founder and director of Foundation 99.

The event addressed the particularities of mainly rural territories, which have not been considered by traditional territorial planning, and the participants also presented their proposals for addressing the issue and the lessons learned from rural development to reformulate territorial planning, as well as what rurality can contribute to urban areas.

Tatiana Aguirre, Rimisp researcher, commented that “rural spaces have a lot to teach us about integrality” and that, as a result of the same challenges faced by rural territories, these “are losing population, decreasing population, which causes young people to migrate”.

“Vulnerable Habitats”, the theme of the XXII Biennial of Architecture and Urban Planning of ChileThe theme “Vulnerable Habitats”, the theme of the XXII Biennial of Architecture and Urbanism of Chile, was proposed to address different issues related to the vulnerability of cities and territories. Through exhibitions, debates and conferences, the cultural meeting sought to reflect and imagine the potential of architecture and urbanism to raise questions and imagine answers to reduce those vulnerable habitats and improve ways of life in times of change and transformation, seeking to open new spaces for reflection on the cultural, social and technological transformations in a sort of change of era that is coming, and the lessons learned from the social crisis and pandemic.
