Quito Coffee Producers’ Business Roundtable yields its fruits

19/10/2022

The Specialty Coffee Business Roundtable, organized by our office in Ecuador and the Municipality of Quito, was successfully held. This event brought together a dozen producers from rural parishes of the Metropolitan District of the Ecuadorian capital and 13 specialty coffee shops.

Producers from Ruta Escondida and Chocó Andino exhibited several varieties of the so-called Café de Quito. This initiative is part of the project “Implementation of Sustainable Strategies for the Strengthening of Rural Productive Competitiveness”, aimed at enterprises in rural territories, with a biocultural approach, to boost their businesses after the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Business Roundtable applied a direct marketing scheme between farmers and buyers. In addition, Carol Chehab, Director of Rimisp in Ecuador handed out the Marketing Models brochure developed by Rimisp in the framework of this project.

For Carol Chehab this Business Roundtable allowed a rapprochement between the actors of the production, sale and consumption of coffee, generating a scheme of trust. “It also became a direct training to public officials of the Zonal Directorates of the Municipality, on this type of models, in order to be applied in various products of the area,” she said.

At the end of this event it was learned that several of the participants made appointments to continue with the negotiation process. There have even been approaches to initiate exports of these varieties of coffee as a result of the Business Roundtable.
