Farmers in the departments of Cesar, Huila and Magdalena are about to take a great leap forward: thanks to the alliance between RIMISP and the Dutch NGO IDH, their products will be able to reach European Union markets under a fair and sustainable trade model.
Responsible production, environmental protection and social inclusion are the key to this alliance that will transform rural production chains and connect producers with international buyers. A greener future is underway!
Find out how this agreement will change the game:
In a strategic alliance to promote sustainable rural development, RIMISP – Latin American Center for Rural Development and the international organization IDH have signed an agreement to implement the Production, Protection and Inclusion Pacts (PPI) in the departments of Cesar, Huila and Magdalena. This initiative seeks to strengthen agricultural production chains and facilitate their access to international markets, especially in the European Union.
The agreement promotes a fair and equitable trade model, ensuring that rural products comply with international sustainability standards. It also promotes social inclusion and environmental protection in these territories.
In 2025, RIMISP will assume the Technical Secretariat of the PPI Pacts, leading the coordination between public, private and community actors. A local partner will also be selected in each department to ensure the continuity of the process and strengthen links between producers and European markets.
“This agreement represents a great opportunity for farmers in Cesar, Huila and Magdalena, as it will allow them to access international markets with better conditions, while protecting the natural environment and strengthening the rural economy,” said Diego Bautista, Director Colombia Rimisp – Latin American Center for Rural Development.
Carolina Tenorio, IDH Colombia Country Manager, emphasized that: “The PPI Pacts are a comprehensive model that has proven its effectiveness in 17 countries. In Colombia, we will continue to strengthen responsible production and environmental protection, ensuring that rural communities have more opportunities and a direct connection to international markets”.
The signing of this agreement will reactivate the work already underway in Cesar and Magdalena, as well as in Huila, in conjunction with the NGO International Conservation and the HYLEA Pact in the Andean-Amazon corridor. This initiative reaffirms the company’s commitment to fairer trade, ecosystem protection and social inclusion, promoting rural development with global projection.
