Rimisp Colombia office advances in the consolidation of strategic alliances from which we continue to seek to comprehensively address the challenges of rural development in Colombia and Latin America, fostering resilient and equitable agri-food systems, promoting social cohesion in the territories, managing socio-territorial conflicts with participatory approaches, and strengthening institutional governance at different levels, contributing to the closing of urban-rural gaps.

This new step is related to the signing of the “Interinstitutional Cooperation Framework Agreement” with the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA).

These thematic axes respond to the convergence of the missions of the Latin American Center for Rural Development (Rimisp) and the Inter-American Institute for Cooperation on Agriculture (IICA), both of which work to promote sustainable, inclusive and territorially balanced rural development in Latin America and the Caribbean.

Within this framework, the “Framework Agreement for Inter-institutional Cooperation” was signed, which seeks to articulate the technical capabilities and experience of both institutions to promote innovation, applied research, extension and strengthening of public policies. The agreement reflects the joint commitment of Rimisp and IICA to the transformation of agrifood systems, support for family and peasant agriculture, and the generation of sustainable productive opportunities that benefit rural communities in Colombia and the region.

The main objective of this agreement is to coordinate efforts and implement actions in the field aimed at enhancing the use of resources and capabilities for the benefit of the Colombian agricultural sector by the two entities.

The importance of the agreement lies in the impact it will have on different key points for the territorial development of the country, as stated by Diego Bautista, Director of Rimisp Colombia.

“The signing of this agreement and partnership with IICA is very important for Rimisp. We hope to work hand in hand to contribute to the closing of rural gaps in Colombia, to enhance the productive and sustainability commitment of the country and the opening of new beneficial markets for family agriculture and the Colombian economy,” he said.

Within the work plan and the resources that will be shared in this agreement, there are important elements such as the coordination of research agendas, the relationship with different national, regional and municipal actors; the complementation and support in extension programs such as advisory services, specialized courses and consultancies; the exchange of experiences; marketing strategies for agricultural products; and the development and implementation of projects that are aimed at having a positive impact on the local sector.

“This agreement will enable us to carry out joint activities to strengthen the agricultural sector in Colombia. We will be able to develop methodologies, hold discussions and other actions designed significantly for the well-being of families in Colombia’s rural sector,” said Breno Tiburcio, IICA representative.

In addition to the actions in the field, the two entities agreed on an academic exchange through courses, books, magazines, bulletins and access to databases to strengthen the work plans aimed at achieving the objectives of the agreement.

In this way, the Rimisp Colombia office continues to consolidate actions of impact and value, which allow to continue transforming rural development in the country. All this based on inter-institutional cooperation and the strengthening of strategic alliances for the wellbeing of rural inhabitants.
