This book delves into how the growing demand for minerals for energy transition affects the Amazon. The first part of the research focuses on the impact of mining extraction on the environment, while the second part addresses the resistance of Amazonian populations to mining projects.
Rimisp senior researcher María del Pilar Bernal is co-ordinator of the publication with Javier Arellano-Yangua. Rimisp supported the research component by carrying out a case study on Mocoa, Colombia, investigating how the development of a copper extraction project impacts this territory in an area with very special environmental characteristics, at the gateway to the Colombian Amazon.
