Reflections on Territorial Planning and Development in Colombia

This book addresses the country’s developments, advances and challenges for the consolidation of mechanisms that contribute to regional development, in particular those related to territorial planning, as well as territorial functionalities.

The different chapters were constructed with input from consultancies with RIMISP, Fedesarrollo and other consultants, thanks to the cooperation delegated by the European Union to GIZ in Colombia, in the framework of the project Strengthening and consolidation of local and regional capacities for planning, land-use planning and peacebuilding – ForPaz.

Fifteen years of rural territorial development in Latin America: what has the experience shown us?

The publication, edited by the doctor in Social Sciences, Julio BerdeguĂ©; the social anthropologist Constanza Christian; and the PhD in Environmental Sciences, Arilson Favareto; gathers the contribution of the Rural Territorial Development (RTD) approach – proposed in 2004 by BerdeguĂ© and Alexander Schejtman, which contemplates dynamics of productive transformation and institutional development – in the research and applied advocacy agenda of the last fifteen years in Latin America.

Perspectives for Latin American rural development. A Tribute to Alexander Schejtman

This book integrates ten papers presented at the seminar ‘Perspectives for Latin American Rural Development’, with which Rimisp – Latin American Centre for Rural Development – wanted to pay a heartfelt tribute to Alexander Schejtman, its first emeritus researcher. The papers, by Latin American academics, reviewed Alexander’s trajectory on key issues of rural development, such as the peasant economy, food security and territorial development.

Masculinities on the move

The main objectives of this book are, on the one hand, to develop a theoretical and methodological perspective different from those predominant in rural studies and gender studies, and, on the other hand, to reveal as yet unknown aspects of the changes underway.

The social state of tomorrow: dialogues on welfare, democracy and capitalism

The wave of demonstrations and diverse anti-neoliberal expressions that have shaken the planet in the last two decades have challenged us with regard to the way we conceive social policies and its articulation with politics. What does living together mean today in a context where capitalism and contemporary democracies are being reconfigured? How do we understand poverty? What are the factors that we must rethink in order to visualise the social state of the 21st century?
These are some of the questions which, together with fundamental issues such as inequality, work, migratory phenomena, the recognition of minorities, an ageing population, among others, are examined by the representatives of three currents of thought on the current Social State, from the perspective of the common good and social justice.
