Transforming Food Systems: Perspectives from Peoples and Nations of the Americas

About the project

During the last week of May 2024, in the cloud forests of Yunguilla, Ecuador, the meeting ‘Transforming Food Systems: Perspectives of Peoples and Nations of the Americas’ took place. It brought together representatives of ten indigenous peoples and nations of the Americas, from Canada to the Peruvian Amazon, to discuss the transformation of food systems in the region.

With funding from the International Development Research Centre (IDRC) and the coordination of Rimisp – Latin American Centre for Rural Development, representatives from the Asháninka, Aymara, Kayambi, Cree, Inuit, Náhuatl, Maya Q’eqchi’, Métis, Misak and Wolastoquey reflected for three days on the elements that characterise their food systems, their potential and the challenges they face, as well as the strategies and opportunities to contribute to strengthening resilient, sustainable and inclusive systems at local and regional levels.
